Step by step — four steps, every time

  1. Pre-press the garment3–5 seconds to flatten seams and drive out moisture — the #1 cause of poor adhesion.
  2. Position the transferDesign against the fabric, clear film facing up. Center it once — it stays where you press it.
  3. Press290–320°F, 8–15 seconds, medium pressure (35–45 psi). Cotton likes the hotter, longer end.
  4. Peel hot & finishPeel the film immediately in one smooth motion. Pro finish: re-press 5–10 seconds with a cover sheet for maximum wash life.

Troubleshooting

Edges lifting / transfer not sticking

Almost always moisture or light pressure. Pre-press 3–5 s, use medium pressure (35–45 psi) with firm, even contact, and re-press 5–10 s with a cover sheet after peeling.

Cracking or fading after washing

Under-pressed. On cotton go to the hotter, longer end (310–320°F, 12–15 s) and always finish with the 5–10 s re-press. Wash inside-out in cold water.

Shiny marks or scorched polyester

Too much heat for the fabric. Drop to the polyester row (285–300°F, 10–12 s) and keep the cover sheet between platen and garment.

Film tears or pulls ink when peeling

Peel HOT, immediately, in one smooth motion — do not let it cool. If it still fights you, the full 8–15 s press didn’t reach the transfer: check platen contact and even pressure.

FAQ

Pressing questions, answered

What temperature and time do I press DTF transfers at?

General setting: 290–320°F for 8–15 seconds at medium pressure (35–45 psi), hot peel. For 100% cotton use 310–320°F for 12–15 seconds. A fabric-by-fabric chart ships with every order.

Hot peel or cold peel?

Hot peel. Remove the film immediately while it is still warm, in one smooth motion. For maximum wash life re-press 5–10 seconds with a cover sheet after peeling.

Do I need a heat press or will a home iron work?

A heat press is strongly recommended — DTF bonds under consistent pressure and temperature, which a home iron can’t hold reliably.

Should I pre-press the garment?

Yes — 3–5 seconds before placing the transfer. It flattens seams and drives out moisture, the #1 cause of poor adhesion.

Do HyperColor transfers need different settings?

No. HyperColor DTF presses with the same settings as standard DTF: 290–320°F, 8–15 seconds, medium pressure (35–45 psi), hot peel — cotton 310–320°F for 12–15 seconds.

Does UV DTF need a heat press?

No heat press needed. Make sure the surface is clean and dry, cut your design and peel the backing film, place the decal and rub firmly with a squeegee or card, then slowly remove the carrier at 180°.

How many washes will my transfer last?

Pressed correctly, our DTF transfers withstand 100+ washes without cracking or fading. Wash inside-out in cold water to extend their life even further. How our 100+ wash rating works →

Why is my transfer peeling or cracking?

Usually moisture, light pressure or too short a press. Pre-press 3–5 seconds, press at 290–320°F for 8–15 seconds with medium pressure (35–45 psi) — cotton at the hotter, longer end — peel hot and re-press 5–10 seconds with a cover sheet.
